Crafting a storybook of palliative care with heart, clarity and narrative design A Human Approach to a Tender Topic Dover Park Hospice’s 2024 Annual Report wasn’t just a publication, it was a story waiting to be told. Our team at CTS.AD was entrusted with the full creative scope: digesting research data, shaping the narrative, designing the flow, and delivering it in print. We knew palliative care required a voice of compassion. So, we developed a unique storybook-style annual report told through the eyes of beneficiaries and caregivers. The result was a report that feels like a shared conversation, and not a clinical summary. From Scratch to Storytelling We began with deep research and data interpretation, breaking down technical medical and operational statistics into accessible, reader-friendly content. Our copywriters collaborated closely with the hospice to shape heartfelt stories and editorial sections that humanised each figure and fact. In place of traditional reporting, we used first-person narratives to give voice to patients and their experiences, creating empathy through every page. Illustrative Design Meets Editorial Elegance The visual language was equally intentional. We built a narrative design using hand-drawn illustrations and soft colours, echoing the hospice’s home-like warmth and dignity. Custom graphics complemented the editorial pacing, with sections thoughtfully paginated to guide readers gently through stories, statistics and impact. From typography to white space, every choice was designed to invite reading and reflection. Data, Softened for Impact We transformed dense clinical data into visual highlights using clean charts, spotlight infographics, and simplified layouts. By weaving these moments between human stories, the report maintained a balanced rhythm, both emotionally resonant and intellectually clear.
